No Town Curbside Bulky Pickup Means You Choose How

In most of the towns around Hartford, the public works department picks up couches and mattresses at the curb on some schedule. Simsbury works differently: the town's own pages we reviewed don't describe a town-run curbside bulky pickup. Ask your trash hauler or the town what's available on your street. For most residents, the choice is between driving it to the town facility yourself and having a crew take it.

The Wolcott Road landfill and recycling center

The town's drop-off is the Simsbury Landfill and Recycling Center at 66 Wolcott Road. It's open Wednesday and Saturday, takes cash or check only, and doesn't accept household trash.

That works for residents who have a truck and a free Wednesday or Saturday. It's a lot of logistics for anyone without one: renting or borrowing a vehicle, loading it, and possibly making several trips. Permits and fees change, so call the town or check its current fee schedule before comparing costs.

Four villages, very different jobs

Simsbury is really four places: Simsbury Center along Hopmeadow Street, Weatogue, West Simsbury and Tariffville. Each tends to bring its own kind of cleanout.

  • Tariffville grew up around a carpet mill on the Farmington River, and some of the company-built worker housing survives. Compact older homes here often mean small attics, steep stairs and tight basements.
  • Weatogue and East Weatogue include historic homes, among them a house on East Weatogue Street from around 1760, where old doorways and steep stairs set the pace.
  • Simsbury Center and Terry's Plain have historic districts of their own, where careful carrying through older doorways matters.
  • West Simsbury calls often start with a two- or three-bay garage that has quietly become storage.

Common Simsbury jobs

Garages packed with bikes, skis, old kayaks and broken patio sets. Barns and outbuildings that haven't been emptied in decades. Full estate cleanouts in family homes. Basements after a water problem. Sporting goods in decent shape can be offered to local charities before anything heads for disposal.

How it works

Send photos or a quick description. The quote is based on truck space and is given before anything moves. The crew carries everything out from wherever it sits, loads it, and sweeps up the area that was cleared.

Junk Removal in Simsbury: Questions

Does Simsbury pick up bulky items at the curb?

The town's pages we reviewed don't describe a town-run curbside bulky pickup, so ask your trash hauler or the town what's available. The other option is driving items to the town landfill and recycling center on Wolcott Road. A junk removal crew loads everything for you, in one visit.

Can a crew clear out barns and outbuildings?

Yes. Tell us roughly what's inside and how the truck can get close. Old hay, animal waste and hazardous chemicals may need special handling, so mention anything like that up front.

Can you take a mattress that got wet in the basement?

Usually, yes. Tell us its condition when you book so the crew can confirm. Items with bedbugs are a separate issue and may not be accepted.

Can sports equipment be donated?

Gear that still works can be passed along to a charity that accepts it. Broken gear is recycled or disposed of properly.
